FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?
o It is a safe and effective facial rejuvenation treatment designed to boost your skin’s natural anti-aging capability; also known as Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture or Acupuncture Face Lift.
Are the results like Botox, facial plumpers or surgery?
o Botox works by paralyzing facial muscles.
o Facial plumpers work by injecting foreign chemicals into the skin.
o Surgery is … well, surgery; anesthesia, cutting, scar tissue, risk of infection, etc.
o Cosmetic Acupuncture works with your body to boost your own innate natural anti-aging biochemicals. You will be able to move your face afterwards (unlike Botox), and will still look like you (unlike facial plumpers which can change the symmetrical ratios of your face), and you get to avoid all the potential risks, complications and side-effects of surgical procedures, yay!
How does Cosmetic Acupuncture accomplish anti-aging results?
o From a biomedical standpoint, each tiny needle creates a “micro-trauma” when inserted into the dermis of the skin. The body’s natural response is to repair this by laying down collagen and elastin. This is how we work with nature to boost the anti-aging capability of your skin.
How long do results last?
o 2-5 years depending on your individual body constitution, lifestyle and maintenance schedule. Monthly maintenance is recommended.
How much does it cost?
o This is a series of 12 treatments. You buy them at once in a package; 12 treatments for $1000. Maintenance is $100 per treatment (once a month is recommended). Click here for Pricing details.
Does it hurt? What if I don’t like needles?
o Most people find acupuncture, as well as facial acupuncture, to be extremely relaxing; and experience these treatments with no problem whatsoever.
o Everyone is different and some days we are more sensitive than others.
o If you are needle sensitive, you might be uncomfortable from time to time depending on what area is being needled. Every effort will be made to work within your comfort level.
Is treatment safe for everyone? Are there any medical conditions or procedures that would prevent me from having Cosmetic Acupuncture?
o Treatment is generally safe for most patients in good health. However, there are several conditions that are contraindicated, and would disqualify you from having a Cosmetic Acupuncture treatment.
🚫Seizure disorder or history of seizures
🚫 Uncontrolled high blood pressure
🚫 History of keloid scarring
🚫Botox or Facial Injectables still in system
❗ If you still have Botox in your system, or facial injectables, you must wait until they are cleared to get treatment?
- This is because:
- Cosmetic Acupuncture increases the metabolism of these substances. You’ve just paid good money to get those procedures and getting facial acupuncture will shorten the length of those results.
- Cosmetic Acupuncture has a powerful effect on your nervous and vascular system. Botox is infamous for migrating outside the injection site. For these reasons, we do not needle patients who have Botox in their system. You must be honest with your practitioner if you’ve had any cosmetic procedures, including injectables in order to ensure your safety.
CONDITIONS THAT MUST BE DISCUSSED BEFORE BEGINNING TREATMENT
💬 Currently taking blood thinners
💬 Bleeding or blood clotting disorder
💬 Currently experiencing migraines
What is involved in getting Cosmetic Acupuncture treatment?
o You will come in 2x/week for the first 2 weeks and 1x/week for the following 8 weeks, for a total of 12 treatments in 10 weeks.
o Before and after pictures will be taken.
o Each treatment, you will lay on a comfortable massage table in a super cozy, relaxing environment.
o Your initial visit is longer (90-120 minutes) to allow time for a thorough consultation period; all others, including maintenance are 60 minutes.
What are the risks and side-effects of treatment
o This protocol is generally safe and effective.
o The most common side-effect is bruising and redness at the needle insertion point. It is my responsibility to advise you of this common side-effect. However, in my experience, bruising is usually minimal, and not particularly noticeable.
o Patients should expect bruising. It happens to almost every patient during the course of treatment and for some patients, it happens with each treatment.
What are the potential benefits of Cosmetic Acupuncture?
o Patients undergoing Cosmetic Acupuncture consistently notice the following benefits:
☀ Improved muscle tone and firmer jaw line
☀ Improvement in fine lines and a diminishing of deeper wrinkles
☀ Moisturized, softer skin and more even skin tone
☀ Reduction in puffiness
☀ Reduction or elimination of rosacea and acne
☀ General health benefits include but are not limited to: reduction in mild anxiety and/or depression, reduction in hot flashes, increased energy, reduced insomnia, improved digestion, reduction in muscle pain/tension.
Can anything be done to help minimize bruising?
o If you are taking large quantities of fish oil, flax oil, or other supplemental oils internally, terminate this 2 weeks prior to treatment; if ok under the advice of your primary care provider.
o Taking internal arnica starting one week before and lasting throughout the course of the series is a good preventative strategy.
o If you are taking blood thinners, you are ineligible for this treatment series.
What if I am not happy with my results?
o As with any acupuncture treatment or cosmetic procedure; we can not make any guarantees.
🌸 This is NOT because we fail to stand by our services. Acupuncture has great clinical success with anti-aging results.
🌸 However, there is so much individual psychology involved with the state of being “satisfied” or “pleased”, that it’s impossible and irresponsible to guarantee this for patients.
o We do everything to maximize results from the initial phone consult/screening, to scheduling all of your appointments according to protocol in advance.
o Everybody is different and unique and therefore results will vary from patient to patient.
o We do not offer refunds on packages once purchased, either fully or partially.
What happens to my before and after pictures, do they get used in print material or are they kept private?
o Your before and after pictures are taken as part of your medical history and as such, are part of your medical file (i.e.: confidential).
o Unless you specifically state your consent to allow the usage of your photos in promotional materials (some patients love to do this), they will remain confidential under the federal HIPAA regulations that protect patient privacy.
What is the difference between micro-needling and other styles of cosmetic acupuncture?
o This is the ONLY cosmetic procedure I know of, including western cosmetic/plastic/aethetician procedures, that treats and improves your WHOLE BODY health with every session while also addressing your cosmetic needs.
o It is a notch above everything else because this treatment series actually IMPROVES your whole health from the inside out.
I’ve had problems with hyperpigmentation and/or acne before. How will this treatment protocol affect those conditions?
o Most patients see an improvement in these conditions, but as a clinician, I have to acknowledge that every patient is different. It is difficult to predict with 100% certainty if your acne or hyperpigmentation will get better or worse with treatment. For patients with severe cases in their health history, who are very concerned about flare-ups, it might be best to proceed slowly with a treatment or two to see how you react before committing to the entire treatment series.
